Barons Market has opened its first Carlsbad grocery store, its 10th store in the region for the Poway-based, family-owned grocery chain founded in 1993.
The store, at 2800 Roosevelt Street, strengthens Carlsbad Village’s “daily-needs retail core” and is part of an ongoing revitalization plan for the neighborhood, Urban Property Group, the leasing company on this transaction, said in a news release.
Baron’s decision to open in Village Carlsbad is a vote of confidence in the neighborhood “as a thriving, walkable coastal market,” the company said.
Barons Market is a local chain with six stores in San Diego County and four in Riverside County. It carries organic, natural and specialty foods and keeps its prices low. Along with grocery staples, its stores cater to people shopping for freshly made soups and other hot foods, and to people seeking gourmet treats at a good value.
A soft opening on June 25 catered to neighbors. Doors opened to the public at the end of the month.
Rachel Shemirani, a senior vice president of Barons Market, said the supermarket is eager to join Carlsbad.
“Carlsbad Village is such an exciting community, and we think Barons Market will be the perfect fit,” Shemirani said in an email to the San Diego Union-Tribune. “The residents of Carlsbad Village want a neighborhood grocery store to fit their active, family-focused and tight-knit community. We have wanted to open a store in this area for years and are excited to provide wonderful food options for Carlsbad Village.”
In a social media post, the Urban Property Group touted the new store’s shaded, succulent landscaped patio.
“The new location … features a spacious outdoor patio designed as a gathering place,” it wrote.
