A 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an alleged road rage incident that led to a shooting that injured a driver on a freeway in Kearny Mesa on Thursday, California Highway Patrol officials said.
The incident occurred when a Ford Explorer got into a lane dispute with a driver in a Volkswagen Passat traveling on the transition ramp from eastbound state Route 52 to southbound Interstate 15 around 8:35 p.m., CHP officials said.
At some point, the driver in the Volkswagen opened fire on the Explorer, occupied by two women and a 7-year-old child, investigators said.
The driver in the Explorer was shot and taken to a hospital, according to CHP officials. Her condition was not immediately available.
The shooter fled the scene before officers arrived. A suspect was arrested Friday on suspicion of attempted murder and a weapons-related charge.
