Art Splash by Abrakadoodle: Coastal DoodleWednesday, July 22, from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. Create a calming, beach-inspired art piece using soft coastal colors and simple doodling techniques. Participants will learn how to use pastel tints and expressive doodles to design ocean waves, seashells, coral, seaweed, and coastal plants. This relaxing workshop focuses on color, texture, and simple patterns that come together to create a peaceful seaside-inspired design. No experience needed, just bring your creativity and love of the coast.Mabelle Ashe is the owner and educational director of Abrakadoodle, a STEAM-based visual arts education program offering creative classes, workshops, camps, and art experiences for all ages. Readers & Writers WorkshopTuesday, July 28, from 10 a.m.–12 p.m. Enjoy engaging book discussions and gentle writing prompts for all levels with author Elizabeth St. John, along with occasional guest authors, in a warm and supportive setting. Bring a pen, a notebook, and your curiosity—you’ll be among friends. This class meets the last Tuesday of each month. This class is full; please call to be added to the waitlist.
Getting Started with UberWednesday, July 29, from 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Senior Tech Connect’s Dylan Willis will present a class designed to help older adults use Uber with confidence. Participants will learn how to download and set up the app, create an account, add a payment method safely, use Uber Simple Mode, and request rides through Uber’s Call to Ride service without using the app. Attendees are welcome to bring their smartphone, though it is not required. Participants will also receive a coupon code for 50% off their next trip.
Open Art with Merci JensenWednesday, July 29, from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. Join local artist Merci Jensen for a monthly open art space for all levels. A skilled painter and drawer, Merci brings years of experience and a passion for oil painting, color, and composition. Enjoy a relaxed, supportive space to create, connect, and grow artistically. Bring your own materials and join the fun!
Assessing Your Options for Senior CareThursday, July 30, from 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. Join Dr. Gus Fernandez, PharmD, and community liaison at Senior Helpers San Diego County for this informative talk designed to help individuals and families navigate the many choices available for aging adults. The discussion explores different levels of care, including in-home support, assisted living, and memory care while offering guidance on evaluating care needs, lifestyle preferences, and long-term planning.
Save the dates!Mindful Awareness & Healing Practice (MAHP)Wednesdays Aug. 5, 12, 19, 26 and Sept. 2, 9, from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Offered in collaboration with the UC San Diego Stein Institute for Research on Aging, this six-week class combines breathwork, gentle movement, and mindfulness to support physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Similar to practices like Tai Chi, MAHP is designed to help reduce stress, improve physical ease, support mobility, and encourage emotional balance. Led by Kelli “Kai” Silva, PhD, a mindfulness educator and meditation facilitator with over 20 years of experience. $60 for the six-week series, or $15 per class for drop-ins. Fee is paid directly to the instructor.

Open Play Mah JonggEach Monday, from 10 a.m. – noon. Enjoy a friendly game of beginner American Mah Jongg, a tile-based game that is enjoyed by individuals throughout the world! A basic understanding of the tiles and rules is required. Seating is first come, first served. Players are responsible for organizing tables and groups; the Senior Center cannot arrange seating or table assignments.
Texas Hold’em Poker for BeginnersEach Monday, from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. This fun, beginner-friendly class teaches the fundamentals of Texas Hold’em, giving you the confidence to join a friendly game. Instructor George Bullette, Senior Center board president, brings years of poker experience and will guide you through basic rules and strategies in a real game setting. This class is full—please call to be added to the waitlist.
Open Play Chess & BackgammonEach Tuesday, from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. Come and enjoy a friendly game and get a great workout for your brain! All levels of players are welcome. Tables and playing pieces are furnished. A basic understanding of each game is required. Seating is first come, first served. The Senior Center cannot arrange seating or table assignments.
Chair YogaEach Thursday, from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Chair Yoga is a type of yoga that is modified to allow participants to perform all exercises seated. Instructor Peggie Moore is passionate about working with students of every age, size, shape and ability. There is a $10 fee per class paid to the instructor. The first class is free.
Conversational SpanishEach Friday, Beginner 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. and Beginner/Intermediate 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. ¡Hablemos en Español! Jeannette Caruth learned Spanish solely through conversation and invites you to become more familiar with the language. Each class is a one-hour adventure of hearing and speaking another language. Designed for learners comfortable with the basics of Spanish and are ready to take their skills further. There is a $10 fee per class paid to the instructor.

Restorative Meditation with Kelly Dubowski, MSN, RNEach Thursday, from 2 p.m. – 3 p.m.A gentle, supportive practice for relaxation and renewal, open to all experience levels. Kelly is a holistic nurse and coach with expertise in behavioral health and trauma-informed care. To join live on Zoom, email hopewithkelly@gmail.com at least 60 minutes in advance. Suggested donation: $10/class (pay what you can — no one turned away).
