San Francisco Giants take Peyton Bonds, nephew of Barry Bonds, in MLB draft

The San Francisco Giants welcomed another member of the Bonds family into the organization on Saturday.

With the 90th overall pick in the MLB draft, the Giants drafted Peyton Bonds, nephew of Barry Bonds and grandson of the late Bobby Bonds.

Peyton Bonds, an outfielder listed at 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds, finished his junior season at Rutgers with 31 runs scored and 29 RBI in 36 games. He has good bat speed and solid exit velocities, but not quite the power to go with it, at least not yet. He’s also considered an exceptional defensive center fielder.

Bonds, who turns 21 next week, played alongside Trevor Cohen, who was San Francisco’s third-round selection in last year’s draft.
