(FOX40.COM) — Sacramento firefighters received a sweet surprise Saturday to commemorate National Slurpee Day.

The California Fire Foundation, a non-profit that assists firefighters and their families, partnered with 7-Eleven to give out the icy treat to crews across the Sacramento area.

The foundation said in a news release Saturday that the beverages were “a small gesture of appreciation for their unwavering dedication to protecting California communities during another busy fire season.”

Civilians can join in on the Slurpee day celebrations without picking up a fire hose, since 7-Eleven is giving away free small Slurpee drinks to all customers on Monday.

The Slurpee is celebrating its 60th birthday in 2026, after 7-Eleven cut a licensing deal with Icee back in 1965 to sell the slushy beverage at its convenience stores.
