California’s highest tide of the year is expected to arrive along the coast later this evening.
The so-called King Tide is forecast to peak just before 9:00 p.m. in La Jolla at just over seven feet.
Experts say the unusually high tide is caused by the gravitational pull of the sun and moon and is not related to storms.
While little wave action is expected, officials say the event offers a glimpse of how future sea level rise could increase the risk of coastal flooding.
