A bicyclist fatally injured in a hit-and-run crash in Long Beach was identified Monday.
The rider was struck at about 2:35 a.m. Monday near Cowles Street and Santa Fe Avenue, where officers responded and found a man lying on the road, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Gerardo Mejia, 51, suffered multiple blunt force injuries and was pronounced dead on the sidewalk, according to the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office.
Police said Mejia was riding west on Cowles Street when he was struck by an unknown vehicle that turned east onto Cowles from South Santa Fe Avenue.
The driver fled the scene without offering to render any assistance to the victim, police said.
