(FOX40.COM) — Sacramento ice cream shop Licked in Oak Park, founded by Strapping Store owner Susan Stewart in 2024, is set to close at the end of the month, according to the owners in a social media post.
The announcement was made on Sunday on Instagram, which said that the last day the business will be open is July 31.
“I opened Licked as a love letter to Oak Park. I really had this dream that people would get an ice cream cone and stroll the streets and check out the shops, get a little sweet treat after dinner, and just kind of enjoy the neighborhood,” the owner said in the post. “Have the neighbors and the neighborhood kids ride on their bikes and get a cone. And unfortunately, it would it really didn’t work.”
They said the proximity to Gunther’s, an iconic 86-year-old ice cream shop less than a mile away, and people “not wanting their ice cream” is part of the reason for their unsuccess.
Nevertheless, the community is still invited to enjoy nut-free ice cream until closing.
The owner thanks the customers and neighbors for supporting Licked the last three summers.
“Yeah, a little heartbroken, little sad. Not gonna count it as a loss. I’m gonna count it as experience. So you know that’s what life’s about. You learn, you live, you learn, and the ones that are brave enough to try sometimes fly, sometimes fail,” the owner said.
Licked, located on 3400 Broadway Suite 100, is open from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.
