A 27-year-old driver died shortly after the sedan he was driving crashed into a tree and then a cinder block wall in Clairemont on Sunday, California Highway Patrol officials said.

The crash occurred when the Toyota sedan veered off the roadway and crashed on the southbound Interstate 805 onramp from Clairemont Mesa Boulevard around 2:30 a.m., CHP investigators said.

The driver was taken to a hospital, where he died. His name has not been released.

Investigators said a toxicology report is pending through the county Medical Examiner’s Office to determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

No other details were immediately available.
