After a lost last year of over 13-hundred students, San Diego Unified says they enrolled more than one-thousand new students for this year.
The district says enrollment numbers are down statewide due to lower birth rates, fewer immigrants and the high cost of living.
To help increase enrollment the district launched the Neighborhood Schools and Enrollment Options team, offered enrollment online and set up 52 enrollment hubs to assist students and families.
Superintendent Fabiola Bagula says this new push for students comes after a California Department of Education (CDE) report showing nearly 75-thousand fewer students are attending public schools in the state.
