Trial entered its second day Tuesday for the case against a Highland Township man accused of murdering his fiancee — the mother of his baby.
Michael Devon Webb, 23, is charged with first-degree premeditated homicide for the April 15, 2025 death of Rachel Renee Wooten, 23. The shooting happened shortly after 4 p.m. that day at the couple’s residence in the 200 block of Maple in the Highland Hills mobile home community near M59 and Milford Road, officials said.
He’s also charged with possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Wooten was shot in the neck and pronounced dead at the scene. The couple had an infant son.

Webb reported the shooting, calling 911 and claiming he had accidentally shot Wooten and himself while cleaning his gun, officials said. His claim wasn’t supported by the evidence, officials said.
Webb was booked into the Oakland County Jail a few hours after the shooting.

Wooten’s obituary states, in part: “Rachel touched so many lives along her life’s journey with her passionate love and vibrant personality. Her greatest joy in life was being a mother. She was the most devoted, resilient, and selfless mom to her 6-month-old son, Aspen, and a gentle, guiding caregiver to her stepson, Asher. Everyone who knew Rachel knew that motherhood came naturally, and she was the best mom in the entire world.”
Oakland County Circuit Judge Michael Warren is presiding over the trial.
First-degree premeditated homicide is punishable by life in prison without parole.
