 Richard Theodore Winslow was born on December 10th, 1941 in Clovis, California to parents Gareld and Irene Winslow. He was the middle child of three, Robert being the oldest, and Ronald being the youngest. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving wife and family on October 12th, 2025 in Maricopa, California. 

Richard graduated South High School in Bakersfield in 1960 and went straight to the Airforce after. He served his country from 1960 to 1963. After being honorably discharged, he came back to Bakersfield and enrolled in the Bakersfield College. In 1963, he welcomed his first child, Richard Jr., after that, in 1967, he welcomed his second son, Michael and then his only daughter, Dawn in 1969. In 1966 he joined the California Highway Patrol and was awarded the Million Mile Award. He worked as a CHP for 30 years, retiring in 1995. After retiring, he decided he wanted to get back to work! So, he was hired at the True Value in Taft and was known as The Handyman. He worked there for 22 years until officially retiring for good. He later married his wife, Sue, in 2021 and they were married by Elvis Presley in Las Vegas, Nevada. 

Richard absolutely loved fishing. He loved fishing out of to La Paz, Mexico. He was an avid fisherman and even went to Alaska where he caught a halibut weighing 264bs! He loved golfing and camping and doing it all with his family. 

Richard was a great father, a great husband and an even greater grandfather and great-grandfather. 

He is going to be missed dearly by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. 

He is preceded in death by his parents Gareld and Irene Winslow. 

He is survived by his 2 brothers, Ronald and Robert Winslow, his 3 children, Richard Jr., Michael, and Dawn Winslow, his wife Sue Winslow, his 6 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. 

There will be a graveside service at the Bakersfield National Cemetery on November 19th, 2025 at 10:45 A.M. 

A celebration of life will be held at Joe’s Restaurant in Taft on Richard’s birthday, December 10th, 2025 from 12-4 P.M. 

And yes, he really did catch that fish.
