The world’s biggest soccer tournament is coming to an end, but Los Angeles is still poised to celebrate its last four games starting with a faceoff between France and Spain
The World Cup is heating up for its final four games. Two semifinals, a third-place match, and the final are all that remain in the tournament, and even though Los Angeles already bid farewell to the tournament after it held its last game, Angelenos can still enjoy the best footy in the world at home or around the city.
Who’s facing off?
Today at noon, France and Spain will battle for the first spot in the final, while Argentina and England take the pitch Wednesday. Winners of the single-elimination games will have a chance to win it all Sunday, while their losers will face each other the day before for third-place honors.
Tuesday’s matchup includes a France team that has made the last two finals, once in 2018 when it won its second title and again in 2022 where it lost. Reigning European champions Spain will look to add a second star to their shirt, after winning it all in their first final in 2010. For the first time since 1990, all four of the teams still in the tournament sit first through fourth in FIFA’s official rankings, meaning every game will feature heavy hitters.
Where to watch across Los Angeles
Official World Cup Fan Zones continue to house watch parties, with Pomona’s Fairplex and San Pedro’s West Harbor celebrating both semifinals as well as the final. Downtown Burbank will also have a watch party but only for the bronze and final matches.
Aside from FIFA’s own celebrations, venues around L.A. prepare to celebrate the tournament’s final stretch. Downtown is more than ready, with The Bloc’s outdoor watch party and Level 8’s rooftop celebrations as well as La Cita Bar and L’Appart providing experiences of their own, with the latter especially prepped to support the French squad.
Around the L.A. area, more experiences await fans. Inglewood’s Cosm is still offering seats for its Dome experience as well as general admission tickets. Lodge Room is trading its usual live music for watch parties, right next to Highland Park’s Checker Hall opening for food and drinks right around kickoff time. Beachside celebrations will also take place, one with France Club USA at the Penmar in Santa Monica and another in Hermosa Beach courtesy of LA Galaxy.
Where to watch at home
For those organizing watch parties of their own, this week’s marquee matchups are available in various mediums. A live FOX broadcast can be replaced with one of its digital services like FOX One, or for free with FIFA+. YouTube TV, Hulu+ LiveTV, Fubo and Peacock will all provide the game as well, the latter in Spanish through Telemundo.
