A motorist on Interstate Highway 80 in Oakland was injured in a shooting early Friday morning, authorities said, just hours after another Oakland freeway shooting during the Thursday afternoon commute.
The California Highway Patrol said officers were dispatched at about 5:45 a.m. to a report of a shooting on the eastbound I-80 transition ramp to southbound I-880 in Oakland.Â
The CHP originally reported that the driver had been shot in the head, but was conscious and able to speak with officers who arrived at the scene. CHP spokesperson Sgt. Andrew Barclay later clarified that the driver had been struck by shrapnel, not a bullet, and the incident was being investigated as a road rage incident between the victim and suspect that led to the shooting.
