BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Charnay McLin allegedly broke into a California City home last week, attempted to stab the father of her young child in the chest with a 13-inch knife then grabbed the child from a bedroom and drove away, prompting an Amber Alert that was deactivated hours later when both were found.
McLin, 31, had not guilty pleas entered on her behalf Tuesday to charges of assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, spousal abuse and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, according to court records.
She’s due back in court in Mojave on Thursday and is being held on $100,000 bail.
The California Highway Patrol issued the Amber Alert on Friday evening and asked for help finding McLin and her 3-year-old child. The alert was deactivated early Saturday.
According to a probable cause declaration, McLin confronted the child’s father after breaking into a home and brandishing a knife she took from the kitchen.
She allegedly tried to stab him in the chest, but the father “blocked the attack and was punctured on his left deltoid,” according to the declaration. He suffered a deep cut.
With the father injured, McLin was able to remove the child and vehicle keys from the home and drove away, according to the declaration. The document notes McLin “had not legal custody rights” to the child, “whom she is restricted from by court order.”
