Authorities in Santa Clara are asking the community for help identifying a man who sexually assaulted a woman on Monday.
At about 1:30 a.m., officers received a report of a someone yelling for help from Carmichael Park on Benton Street in Santa Clara. Police arrived at the area and saw a man running from the scene who was going north from the park and was last seen jumping over the fence at a nearby condominium complex on Benton Street.
Officers found a woman and determined that a sexual assault had occurred, the department said.
Despite efforts, the suspect eluded arrest.
Detectives are asking residents and businesses in the area to review surveillance footage taken between 12:30 a.m. and 2 a.m. on Monday morning.
“Even footage that does not appear to show the assault itself may help investigators identify the suspect’s movements before or after the incident,” the Santa Clara Police Department said.
Anyone who was in the area during that time, or who has surveillance footage or other information related to this case, is asked to contact Det. Sgt. Ogg at 408-615-4823. Individuals may also provide information via the Anonymous Tip Line, 408-615-4TIP (4847).
