(KRON) — The ribbon-cutting for two newly renovated basketball courts at a San Jose park is on hold after vandalism was discovered on the surfaces, the San Jose Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services said Monday.
The damage to the new courts at Plata Arroyo Park appeared to be from illegal fireworks, according to parks officials. Photos shared by the department show a number of blemishes to the courts’ newly painted surfaces.

“While staff assess the damage and determine how or if repairs are possible, we’ve made the difficult decision to postpone the ribbon-cutting,” the parks department wrote. “Our teams worked hard to bring these courts back for the community. Seeing them damaged before they could even be celebrated is incredibly disappointing.”
