An investigation is underway after a North Highlands home was destroyed in a fire on Monday afternoon. The flames extensively damaged the home in the 4400 block of Sycamore Way, the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said.
Fire officials said the location of the home — set back from the roadway — presented “initial challenges” for firefighters, in addition to the several roaming horses on the property that needed to be safely secured. No one was home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.
“The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District reminds the community that working smoke alarms save lives,” the agency said in a press release. “Test smoke alarms monthly, replace batteries as recommended, and practice a home fire escape plan so everyone knows how to get out safely in the event of a fire.”
