An Oakland County Sheriff’s deputy is being recognized after he helped save two children from a burning home by getting them out through a second-story window.
ORION TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJRT) – An Oakland County Sheriff’s deputy is being recognized after he helped save two children from a burning home by getting them out through a second-story window.
The fire happened just before 5 p.m. Friday on Meadowbrook Court, which is off of Waldon Road near Baldwin Road in Orion Township.
A 911 caller reported that two children were trapped on the second floor of the home and were unable to escape.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Musse was first on scene and noticed the two boys through an upstairs window as smoke filled the home. Musse quickly positioned a trash can beneath the window to gain the additional height needed to reach the children.
Firefighters also made an entry to rescue the family dog that was still trapped.
The two kids, aged 10 and 12, were both taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. They were both released from the hospital.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
