BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Bakersfield Police Department will once again provide security services at the Kern County Fair this year.

On Wednesday, the Bakersfield City Council approved the agreement with the 15th District Agricultural Association, on behalf of the Kern County Fair, for BPD to provide services.

The association will reimburse the city for all security costs up to $430,000, according to the meeting agenda. The term of this agreement is for Friday, Sept. 18 through Sunday, Oct. 4.

BPD will be the primary law enforcement agency for the Fair and lead security operations starting a week before the Fair begins Sept. 18, the agenda said.

About 400,000 people are expected to attend the Fair this year, according to city officials. 

BPD’s goal is to keep all participants, visitors and vendors safe throughout the event. According to the agenda, security operations are set to run 24 hours per day and BPD will work with personnel from other local agencies.
