Angelenos advised on the rising temperatures and safety measures the community can take.

As summer continues, temperatures continue to rise all over the country, including Los Angeles. The National Weather Service has predicted ongoing elevated heat conditions for much of this week in Los Angeles County as well as other areas of California. Many Southern Californians are diving into L.A. County beaches for a cool escape.

Temperatures are expected to exceed 100 degrees during this heat wave. Whether you are a resident or visiting, it is good to plan ahead for these new weather conditions. Below is a list of safety tips to keep in mind when you are in severe weather temperatures.

Tips for Safety

Stay indoors during the hottest part of the day (10 a.m.–3 p.m.) and keep your home cool with air conditioning, shades, or by visiting a cooling center if needed.

Drink plenty of water, replace lost electrolytes during strenuous activity, and avoid alcohol to prevent dehydration.

Limit outdoor activity, wear lightweight clothing, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunscreen if you must be outside.

Never leave children, pets, or anyone unattended in a vehicle or near a pool. Check on older adults, young children, outdoor workers, and others at higher risk for heat-related illness.

Keep pets cool with water, shade, and protection from hot pavement. Prepare for possible power outages and sign up for emergency alerts.

Call 911 immediately if someone shows signs of heat stroke, such as a body temperature of 103°F or higher, confusion, fainting, nausea, or hot, red skin.

The extreme heat warning has been issued effective from 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, until 8 p.m. Thursday, July 16.
