Long Beach residents can connect with resources and other opportunities during upcoming community events hosted by their own neighbors.
Four community events are scheduled for this month that are hosted by residents participating in the city’s Neighborhood Leadership Program Class of 2026. The events are designed to connect residents with valuable resources, opportunities and ways to make a difference, organizers said.
The Neighborhood Leadership Program is a free, five-month program offered by the Community Development Department and Housing and Neighborhood Services Bureau, according to the city’s website. The multilingual program is intended to assist residents, and provide them with the skills, knowledge and resources needed to make a difference in the quality of life in their corner of Long Beach.
The program is also meant to help improve communication skills, recognize the benefits of diversity, create innovative solutions for improving neighborhood issues, apply for grants, plan community projects and more.
Upcoming events will happen the next two weekends in the Central Long Beach area, and were made possible with the support of the Port of Long Beach and other local organizations.
A career fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 18, at Mark Twain Library, 1401 E. Anaheim St. Residents will be able to discover employment opportunities, explore workforce training programs and connect with local experts for resume support and career guidance, according to the city’s website.
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, a family-friendly green fair, called “Blooms, Books and Bins,” will be held at The Guidance Center, 1301 Pine Ave. Attendees will be provided with tools and educational resources related to native gardening, composting, waste reduction and sustainability practices.
That same day, from 10 a.m. to noon, there will be a 14th Street Park neighborhood cleanup. Residents will help clean the neighborhood by picking up litter, as well as building neighborhood pride and learning about local resources that support a safer, cleaner community. The meeting location will be at Latinos in Action, 1350 Pine Ave.
The following weekend, on July 25, there will be an all-ages educational resource fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at MacArthur Park, 1321 E. Anaheim St. Attendees will have access to educational resources, scholarship opportunities, trade school programs, and internship pathways to help achieve their academic and career goals.
