OAKLAND — A man who robbed a Chinatown bank last week by threatening an employee with a knife made a return visit Wednesday morning, this time passing a teller a note that claimed he had a gun before escaping with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.
Wednesday’s robbery at the Wells Fargo Bank branch, 901 Franklin St., happened about 9:06 a.m.
Police said the suspect, this time wearing different clothing from last week, gave a teller a note that demanded money, claimed he had a gun and that the teller would be shot if they did not comply.
He was given an undisclosed amount of cash, walked out of the bank and was last seen on Franklin Street. No one was hurt.
Based on a review of video surveillance from the two robberies and other undisclosed information, police believe the same man is responsible for both robberies.
In the July 9 robbery at the bank, the suspect walked in about 9:26 a.m., grabbed an employee by the collar, threatened him with a knife and demanded cash, police said. Another employee gave him an undisclosed amount of cash and he left on foot.
He is described as Black, in his 50s, about 6 feet tall with a medium build. He is bald and has a salt-and-pepper beard.
In Wednesday’s robbery he was wearing a white baseball cap, a black jacket, tan scarf and dark pants.
