RENO, Nev. — A Reno, Nevada, man has been arrested after investigators say a kitten was tortured to death inside a bank ATM vestibule on Market Street in San Francisco.
San Francisco police said officers became aware of the animal abuse case July 2, after San Francisco Animal Care and Control began investigating the incident.
Investigators said the day before, a man entered a bank ATM vestibule in the 1800 block of Market Street around 2 a.m. with a small kitten and “proceeded to violently torture the animal to death,” then fled with the dead animal.
With the help of Reno Police, San Francisco Animal Care and Control obtained a warrant for information about the suspect that led to identifying him as 33-year-old William Ohlson of Reno. Police located Ohlson at a hotel in the 100 block of Fell Street.
Then on July 14, officers served a search warrant at the hotel. Police said an RTIC Drone as First Responder operator advised that Ohlson had fled the room onto the roof of an adjacent room. SFPD requested help from the San Francisco Fire Department, and firefighters responded with a truck and ladder to help officers safely arrest Ohlson on the roof.

Ohlson was booked into San Francisco County Jail on charges of animal abuse and neglect and resisting or delaying arrest.
