Los Angeles County authorities were expected to provide an update on the homicide investigations related to two people who were shot and killed ruing a Fourth of July celebration in Compton.

Meah Bordenave-Jenkins, a 19-year-old nursing student entering her sophomore year at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, was killed when gunfire broke out at a community block party on West Laurel Street. Eric Washington, a community activist, was also killed in the shooting while trying to deescalate a conflict at the party, according to his family.
The Fourth of July shooting happened at around 11:20 p.m. on West Laurel Street neat Wilmington Avenue, authorities said.
The LA County Sheriff’s Department said a total of five people, 2 men and 3 women, were shot earlier this month.
Community members have condemned the deadly shooting, taking away the life of Bordenave-Jenkins, a promising young woman who was visiting her grandmother at the time of the shooting. Another victim, Washington was remembered as someone dedicated to a life of public service.
Bordenave-Jenkins died at the scene. Washington died at a hospital.
No arrests have been reported.
