California Gov. Newsom headed to Brazil next week for COP30 climate summit

California Gov. Newsom will travel to Brazil next week to participate in the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference, his office said.The COP30 event will take place in Belém near the mouth of the Amazon River delta from Nov. 10-21. California’s delegation will also include California Natural Resources Agency Secretary Wade Crowfoot, California Department of Food and Agriculture Secretary Karen Ross, California Public Utilities Commission President Alice Reynolds, California Air Resources Board Chair Lauren Sanchez, and Tribal Affairs Secretary Christina Snider-Ashtari. The governor plans to highlight the state’s climate policies. Before the conference, Newsom will also speak to business leaders in Brazil as part of a fireside chat with Milken Institute CEO Rich Ditizio.CNN previously reported that the Trump administration does not intend to send a high-level delegation to the summit.
