Some Oakland firefighters went viral this week for providing oxygen to an ailing pigeon.

In a post on social media Tuesday night, Oakland Firefighters Local 55 said a crew noticed a pigeon in distress following a vehicle fire.

The pigeon, seemingly suffering from smoke inhalation from the blaze, approached the firefighters in an apparent call for help, the crew reported.

Video posted by Oakland Firefighters Local 55 showed a firefighter holding a small bag of oxygen up to the pigeon’s head. The bird was able to clear its lungs and flew away a short time later, the firefighters said.

Video of the assist went viral on social media. As of Friday morning, the video had over 1.2 million likes on Instagram.
