More than 200 guests gathered at the DoubleTree by Hilton Sacramento in May to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Sacramento Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., honoring a milestone legacy of scholarship, leadership, and public service.
Founded in 1950, the chapter was among the earliest Black Greek-letter organizations in the Sacramento area and is widely recognized as the city’s first African American Pan-Hellenic organization.
The celebration opened with a procession of 10 past chapter presidents, followed by a special video presentation from Sumatra Kirkland, the chapter’s first president, who reflected on its founding and enduring mission.
Current Chapter President Shani Alford highlighted the chapter’s decades of service through educational, economic, and social action initiatives. Historical displays and videos showcased the chapter’s work with organizations such as March of Dimes, WEAVE, Loaves & Fishes, and HIV/AIDS awareness programs, along with signature initiatives including the Ebony Fashion Show, Delta Days in Sacramento and Youth State, the Financial Youth Summit, UCAN, and the annual Red and White Christmas event.
