July is more fierce than frolicsome, what with temperatures creeping toward the triple digits around Los Angeles, and adding ornaments to mantels and trees isn’t an activity we pursue in the scorchiest part of summer.
Still, Christmas in July, as a concept, a theme, and something sweet to embrace, is very real, and you can really find a festive mid-year spirit at a few places around Southern California.
Heritage Square Museum may frequently host Halloween-themed events, but all of the historical park’s Victorian homes also boast a sugar-frosted feel and the sort of pretty presence you might find on a Christmas card.
It’s a destination that sort of rocks the yuletide vibes all year long, and over the last weekend of July that spirit will come to the Christmassy forefront.
Storyland Productions is dancing over to the Arroyo Parkway-close attraction to present Christmas in July at Heritage Square, a festivity that will feature decorated storybook houses, the Gummy Bear Lounge, a sizable gingerbread house, and a dance performance, too.
Pasadena Civic Ballet will present the charming “Babes in Toyland” vignette, which will last around 30 minutes.
As for the eye-catching storybook houses and their themes? Goldilocks, Little Red Riding Hood, and other timeless characters and tales will add to each abode’s overlay.
The dates are July 25 and 26 and tickets start at $43.45. There are two times each day, at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., so ask your own elves when they’d like to prance by the entrancing event.
As for what you should wear to the happening?
It is still warm in Southern California, very warm, so tropical wear with plenty of festive flair is the dress code, though anything stylish, cool, and a bit Christmassy will be perfect.
