The San Diego Police Department urged residents and visitors Friday to celebrate responsibly and remain vigilant ahead of several large-scale events planned this month.
With major crowds expected for Over the Line, San Diego Pride, Comic-Con and several other July events, authorities warn of a potential increase in theft and crimes targeting unsuspecting attendees, according to the department.
To help people protect themselves and their belongings, police advised the public to always be aware of their surroundings, keep valuables in front pockets and never leave bags or purses unattended.
For those attending parties or social venues, officials emphasized the importance of monitoring beverages at all times and advise against accepting drinks from strangers.
Authorities also stress traffic safety, reminding motorists to watch for pedestrians and other drivers. Police advised anyone who is impaired to use rideshare services or public transportation rather than getting behind the wheel.
