Bakersfield man, 32, died of fentanyl, meth overdose; hyperthermia possible: Coroner

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A 32-year-old Bakersfield man died last month from an accidental drug overdose, with possible hyperthermia as a contributing factor, according to the Kern County Coroner’s Office.

Hector Erik Rivera Jr. died June 13, 2026, in the 2000 block of 28th Street, the coroner’s office said. Bakersfield police found him two days later, on June 15, just before 8:30 a.m.

An autopsy determined Rivera’s cause of death was the toxic effects of fentanyl and methamphetamine, with possible hyperthermia contributing, the coroner’s office said. The manner of death was ruled an accident.
