SHASTA-TRINITY NATIONAL FOREST, Calif. (KOLO) – The U.S. Forest Service Chief said he is grateful beyond words that both of the California Forest Service employees are home safe after being taken hostage while doing field work on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, according to a Friday, July 17, agency Facebook post.
On Thursday, July 16, the two were taken hostage, and by the early morning of Friday, July 17, both were safe, according to Chief Tom Schultz.
This outcome is a testament to the skill and professionalism of the Forest Service law enforcement officers, the FBI, the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office, and every first responder who answered the call, Schultz said.
The focus now is the well-being of the Forest Service employees and their families, Schultz said.
