No Family Should Go Hungry
Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson has launched the Long Beach Food Access Fund in response to the delay in federal food program benefits.
Powered by Long Beach Gives, this effort unites the Mayor’s Office, The Nonprofit Partnership, Long Beach Gives and the Mayor’s Fund of Long Beach to help feed our neighbors.
With potentially 93,000 Long Beach residents losing access to benefits due to the federal government shutdown, the goal of the Long Beach Food Access Fund is to connect trusted nonprofits with valuable resources to help feed our neighbors in need.
“We have to work together to make sure our most vulnerable neighbors are safe and fed. When the federal government falls short, Long Beach steps up,” said Mayor Rex Richardson. “Our community has a strong desire to help each other, and this is a great opportunity to help.”
“In response to growing food insecurity, The Nonprofit Partnership and Long Beach Gives are joining Mayor Rex Richardson and the Mayor’s Fund for Long Beach to activate community support through the Long Beach Food Access Fund,” said Michelle Byerly, Executive Director of The Nonprofit Partnership. “Nonprofits are trusted partners in our city, and with the right resources, they can respond quickly and effectively to meet urgent food needs and ensure every resident has access to healthy food.”
“The LB Food Access fund reflects the power of partnership-and the compassion that defines Long Beach. Powering Long Beach Gives with the LB Food Access Fund mobilizes local generosity to ensure every resident has access to food, showing the power of collaboration to meet our city’s most pressing need,” said Carrie Eldridge, Campaign Manager Long Beach Gives.
“The Food Access Fund shows the power of collaboration in action — and what makes Long Beach truly exceptional,” shares Karissa Selvester, Executive Director of the Mayor’s Fund for Long Beach. “The Mayor’s Fund is proud to partner with Mayor Richardson and LB Gives on a swift response to help fill critical gaps. We look forward to continuing to convene partners to build collective solutions to advance both immediate relief and long-term strategies that get resources to residents.”
