It seems like both the City Council and the mayor are governing our city by following that old adage, “Let’s run it up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes it.”

Either one or the other comes up with a new idea for revenue. Then they announce it, possibly institute it and wait to see if we, the constituents, will salute it or tear it down.

If enough San Diegans salute it, it stays; if not, they lower the flag and try another. Parking charges at Balboa Park, additional hotel taxes, etc.

I, for one, am getting tired of seeing new flags flying.
