That may have been your favorite pastime way back when, in addition to wearing your grandpop’s boots, eating real ranch beans with a ladle, and collecting horse figurines.
There are still routes to connecting with your cowboy and cowgirl daydreams: By saddling up for the National Day of the Cowboy and Cowgirl celebration at The Autry Museum of the American West.
The annual hoedown has big-sky flavor to spare, with straight-from-the-corral demonstrations, the opportunity to learn line dancing or brush up on your skills, and beautiful horses in attendance.
The 2026 party is clip-clopping on Saturday, July 25 and tickets are available for purchase.
Pico Pistolero and his Snake Pit of Scoundrels will arrive with an assortment of salon games in tow, Mike’s Country Dancing is at the lead on the dance floor, and Urban Saddles will be there with a mane-rocking star or two (yep, they’re available for photos).
If you simply want to soak up the spur-ready sounds, several bands and artists will strum the day away.
Trick roping demonstrations, a petting zoo, and movies inside the Autry Theater are also on the yippee-ki-yay round-up.
