A Pontiac man with a lengthy criminal past is guilty of murdering another Pontiac man in a drive-by shooting last year, as determined by an Oakland County jury Tuesday.
The verdict against Tremaine Jevon Love, 24, was returned Tuesday morning following a brief trial in Oakland County Circuit Court. Love was convicted of first-degree homicide for fatally shooting Thomas Jerrell Washington, 26, on June 13, 2025, and four firearms-related offenses: possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, carrying a concealed weapon, and two counts of felony firearm.

Washington was fatally shot when a vehicle passed by him in the area of Auburn Avenue and Russell Street in Pontiac and Love opened fire Washington was struck by several bullets, officials said. Within hours of the shooting, Love — identified as the suspect — was arrested without incident at a traffic stop at Middlebelt and Long Lake roads in West Bloomfield, officials said.
Soon after Love was taken into custody, Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard issued this statement: “I am very proud of our teamwork that quickly located and took into custody this murder suspect. I have said numerous times that a small number of people commit a large number of violent crimes. Given his background, it reaffirms my point. Individuals that have this proclivity for gun crimes need to do significant
prison time. This individual needs to spend the rest of his life behind bars.”
Love was on probation at the time of the shooting. His criminal history includes convictions for home invasion, illegal drugs and weapons-related crimes.
As stated in Washington’s obituary, “he was a man of Christian faith…he lived with kindness, patience, and thoughtfulness that made him loved by everyone he met.”
Washington is survived by three children and several other family members.
Love is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Jeffery Matis on Aug. 27. First-degree homicide is punishable by life in prison.
