San Francisco transit agencies are reviewing transportation problems that followed the city’s Fourth of July fireworks celebration.
An estimated 100,000 people traveled to the waterfront to watch fireworks over the Golden Gate Bridge. Many used public transit after city officials encouraged people to leave their cars at home.
After the show, riders encountered long waits and crowded trains as they tried to get home. Some said their trips took two to three times longer than expected.
“There’s only so much you can do before you just kind of accept your fate,” BART rider Gloria Zhu said. “It was just push and shove into the trains, so we moved with the people and hoped to get on a train before the last one was out.”
