Firefighters on Tuesday were battling a wildfire near Pleasanton that quickly spread to 950 acres and triggered evacuation orders.
The Little Fire, which broke out near Vallecitos and Little Valley roads in the Sunol area, has triggered evacuation orders for the following zones: ALC-072, PLS-079, PLS-080, PLS-081, PLS-082 and PLS-103, according to Cal Fire.
The blaze started at about 2:45 p.m. Crews were battling the fire with tankers and helicopters from the air and engines, crews and bulldozers on the ground. The blaze was at 10% containment, according to Cal Fire.
Officers on the ground and in the air are assisting with evacuations in neighborhoods currently under evacuation orders, authorities said. Additionally, the department’s air support unit is actively fighting the blaze.
The city of Pleasanton has opened an evacuation center at the Pleasanton Senior Center and requested assistance from American Red Cross shelter workers, the organization announced.
The Red Cross said it will have two volunteers at the center tonight and is preparing additional staff for the coming days in case a full-time shelter is needed.
Additionally, the city has county emergency trailers on site and can convert the facility into an overnight shelter if necessary, according to the Red Cross.
The Alameda County Fire Department is assisting Cal Fire in the effort.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Shadow Cliffs Regional Park is temporarily closed due to the fire, the East Bay Regional Park District Police Department announced.
