There has not been much joy in the 2025 Padres season, but during Tuesday night’s game the Padres were homer happy.
The San Diego Padres his 4 home runs in an 8-3 win over the Braves, 2 by Manny Machado and 1 each from Fernando Tatis Jr. and Jackson Merrill.
Tatis’ twp-run shot in the eighth traveled 474 feet. The previous longest of the season was a 473-foot shot by Braves catcher Drake Baldwin. It was the second longest home run of Tatis’ career, a 477-foot shot in 2021 at Coors Field in Colorado.
Machado didn’t hit a home run 477 feet, but he combined to hit 830 feet of home runs Tuesday night. Machado hit a 412-foot homer in the 5th giving the Padres a 5-2 lead, then a 418-foot homer in the 6th increasing the lead to 6-2.
Merrill’s solo home run started a 3-run 4th inning that saw the Padres take a lead they would never relinquish.
As a team the Padres had 13 hits from 8 different players, including 4 players with at least 2 hits.
With the win the Padres improved to 50-51 and are 2 games of the final wild-card playoff spot in the National League.
