Highland Township receives SEMCOG funding for safety path project – The Oakland Press

SEMCOG has awarded $504,554 in Planning Assistance Program funding for 13 projects in local communities.

The lone Oakland county project is in Highland Township.

The Highland Township Downtown Development Authority will receive $34,554 for preliminary planning and engineering for safety path extension along Milford Road.

The DDA will develop planning concepts for a safety path extension project along Milford Road. It will close a major sidewalk gap along a busy roadway, providing a safe, continuous non‑motorized connection between neighborhoods, local businesses, and the Milford High School.

“The Highland Downtown Development Authority Board is honored to receive SEMCOG’s Planning Assistance Program Award,” said Rick Hamill, township supervisor. “This project is an important step toward creating a safer, more connected community by addressing critical sidewalk gaps along the South Milford Road corridor.”

“Effective planning is key to the growth and success of every community,” said Amy O’Leary, executive director of SEMCOG. “Our Planning Assistance Program provides funding to enable this essential function and take critical steps toward real, on-the-ground project implementation.”
