Bald eagle Jackie recovers at rehab center after rescue in Southern California
Jackie, a well-known bald eagle in Southern California, is undergoing rehabilitation after being rescued from the water in San Bernardino County following a fight with other eagles.
The group Friends of Big Bear said on Sunday that an eagle believed to be named Jackie—part of the famous pair of Jackie and Shadow—got into a short ground fight with two other subadult eagles.
Photos and videos the group obtained showed Jackie was able to fend off the other eagles by turning over and using its talons, but it was unable to fly away. Days later, Friends of Big Bear confirmed through several videos and pictures that the eagle was Jackie.
Friends of Big Bear said Jackie was taken to a rehabilitation center for care. Wildlife experts said Jackie is underweight, anemic and experiencing kidney inflammation. The center is awaiting test results to determine the cause of her symptoms.
She’s a bit feisty with staff, which is a good sign, and she’s eating well, Friends of Big Bear said.
The hope is to return Jackie to her nest so she can reunite with Shadow.
