The California Department of Transportation has announced the start of two months of construction on Highway 119 near Bakersfield.
The State Route119 Pumpkin Center Rehabilitation Project is scheduled to get underway on Aug. 3 and motorists traveling to or from Highway 99 on Highway 119 will be impacted.
Beginning August 3, State Route 119 will be under one-way traffic control between Compagnoni Street and Ashe Road.
The first phase of the project includes improvements to pavement, culverts, curbs, sidewalks, and roadway shoulders.
During this phase, the southbound State Route 99 on- and off-ramps at State Route 119 will be closed nightly from 8 p.m. to 7:a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning.
This phase of construction is expected to last approximately two months.
Construction schedules are subject to change and closures may be extended due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
Traffic through the work zone will be directed by flagging personnel. Motorists are reminded to obey all traffic control devices, follow directions from flaggers, and remain alert for construction crews and equipment.
Local businesses will remain open throughout construction, and access to driveways will be maintained.
