SANTA CLARA — Quarterback Brock Purdy is scheduled to see an increase in practice time as the 49ers point toward their pivotal NFC West game against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.
Coach Kyle Shanahan said the plan calls for Purdy to continue to push his recovery from a turf toe injury. A decision likely will be made later in the week to determine whether Purdy will be available to play against the Rams at Levi’s Stadium.
Purdy is scheduled for limited practice on Wednesday, Shanahan said.
Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall has not been cleared to return to practice.
Pearsall was the 49ers’ leading receiver at the time he was sidelined with the right knee injury on Sept. 28. He sustained an injury to the posterior cruciate ligament in the 49ers’ loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. In four games, Pearsall has 20 receptions for 327 yards.
Pearsall has not sustained a setback, Shanahan said. But his recovery is taking longer than expected.
Defensive end Bryce Huff (hamstring), center Jake Brendel (hamstring), and linebackers Dee Winters (knee) and Tatum Bethune (thigh) are scheduled for limited practice.
Purdy saw action in just two of the 49ers’ first nine games of the season. He played start-to-finish in the season opener against the Seattle Seahawks and in Week 4 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
After being listed as out on the Fridays before their previous three games, Purdy was “questionable” heading into the 49ers’ game Sunday against the New York Giants. He was designated inactive before kickoff, as Adrian Martinez served as the backup to starter Mac Jones.
Jones has played well in his seven appearances this season, during which time the 49ers are 5-2. Jones completed 67.2 percent of his passes during that time for 1,832 yards with 10 touchdowns, five interceptions and a passer rating of 93.6.
The 49ers expect to get Huff back in action this week after he missed two games due to a hamstring injury. Huff has registered four of the team’s 11 total sacks through nine games.
Rookie defensive lineman Mykel Williams will be moved to injured reserve this week after sustaining a season-ending knee injury on Sunday. He suffered a torn ACL in his right knee late in the 49ers’ 34-24 victory over the Giants.
Guard Ben Bartch is expected to be a full participant at practice on Wednesday, Shanahan said. Bartch is expectedto returnn to action this week after being sidelined with a high-ankle sprain in the 49ers’ Sept. 14 game against the New Orleans Saints. He started the first two games of the season.
Rookie Connor Colby started the six games at left guard before Spencer Burford took over as the starter on Sunday against the Giants.
Brendel has missed the past two games with a hamstring injury. Backup Matt Hennessy stepped into the starting lineup with Brendel out of action.
Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk’s status remains uncertain, as the 49ers will not open the practice window for him this week. Shanahan said he is confident Aiyuk will return before the end of the seaso, butt he is listed as “week to week.”
Aiyuk sustained a torn right ACL, torn MCL and cartilage damage on Oct. 20, 2024, against the Kansas City Chiefs. He remains on the physically unable to perform list.
