MONTEREY BAY, Calif. (WCIV) — Passengers aboard a whale watching boat in central California were treated to a special show over the weekend in Monterey Bay.
A pod of killer whales was spotted hunting a group of dolphins in a scene that is pretty rare for whale watchers.
The passengers aboard a Sanctuary Cruises Boat spotted the battle where adult orcas can be seen ramming a dolphin with enough force to send it clean out of the water.
The orcas themselves were even seen going full airborne in the pursuit.
Officials state that orca sightings in the area are relatively common, but for a vessel to witness this type of attack is pretty rare.
