Evacuation warning lifted for South Fire in mountains north of Bakersfield

UPDATE: The evacuation warning for the South Fire has been lifted, according to the Kern County Fire Department.

Fire officials said the forward progress of the fire was stopped at about 85 acres Wednesday night.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A fire in the mountains north of Bakersfield has prompted an evacuation warning Wednesday afternoon.

The fire was reported north of Bakersfield around 4:08 p.m. in the area of South Granite Road.

An evacuation warning has been prompted for Genasys Zone KRN-600.

According to Genasys, if you are in that area, you should prepare to leave.

This fire is being called the “South Fire.” The fire has burned about 70 acres, according to the fire department.
