The 1.5-acre Hansen Dam Aquatic Center will host two free, family-friendly movie nights in the San Fernando Valley
For two special nights this summer, the Hansen Dam Aquatic Center in the San Fernando Valley will host free movie nights by the pool, complete with activities and local food trucks for the whole family.
At 6 pm on both nights, families are invited to the historic pool for an evening of food trucks, swimming and other activities before the film begins at sunset.
The featured films will be Shark Tale and Lilo & Stitch, screened on July 24 and August 7, respectively.
Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and swimming gear for an evening spent at the pool!
Admission to the pool is typically $4 for adults and $1 for children. On movie nights, however, guests are welcome for free, making this event the perfect addition to your summer bucket list.
Spanning 1.5 acres, the Hansen Dam’s swim lagoon is the largest public swimming pool in the United States. Instead of a typical shape, the pool features a beach-style entry surrounded by sand, making you feel as if you’re on the coast while still in the Valley.

The pool opened in 1999, as part of the larger restoration project of the Hansen Dam Recreation Area. In addition to the gigantic pool, the space also includes two waterslides, sand volleyball courts, picnic areas and shaded canopies available for rent. If you’re not interested in swimming, the area is also home to a 9-acre recreational lake, designed for fishing and non-motorized boating.
“We’ve had an amazing summer bringing families together through free community events at the Hansen Dam Aquatic Center, giving residents the chance to enjoy the nation’s largest municipal pool right here in the Northeast San Fernando Valley,” said Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez. “We look forward to Angelenos of all ages come together once again for a movie night under the stars.”
RSVP is not required, so gather your gear and bring the family to Hansen Dam Aquatic Center this summer!
