Sacramento IMAX theater says technical issues caused viewing delays for The Odyssey
SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
Esquire IMAX Theatre on K Street confirmed issues occurred with the 70mm film projector during a Wednesday night showing of The Odyssey, Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of the famous Greek poem.
Attendees at the 6:30 p.m. showing stated on Reddit that the screen went black during the last five minutes of the film, and they were rushed out of the theater by managers because there was another showing afterwards.
Those who attended the 10:15 p.m. showing struggled with an hour and 10 minute delay as well as multiple outages during the movie.
“We had a technical issue with the Film Projector last night that resulted in the loss of the final last five minutes of the 6:30 show. We were able to get the projector running with an hour and 10 minute delay for the 10:15 show, but subsequently had another issue which caused a 10 minute delay,” Theatre Director Doug Link said in an email to KCRA 3.
There are only 26 theaters in the U.S. that can showcase The Odyssey in IMAX 70mm. California houses eight of them, and Esquire IMAX is the only theater in Sacramento that can showcase The Odyssey in 70mm.
