Ian Schrager’s latest project is coming to the former Standard hotel space

Hotelier Ian Schrager announced plans to open a new location of his “luxury for all” hotel brand, PUBLIC, in West Hollywood in spring 2026.

Schrager, who co-founded Studio 54 and has been credited with pioneering the boutique hotel movement, received the SevenRooms Icon Award at The World’s 50 Best Hotels earlier this year.

The 137-room hotel will be located on the Sunset Strip in a landmark building designed by Schrager in collaboration with British architect John Pawson. The project marks Schrager’s third venture in Los Angeles and the first West Coast expansion of the PUBLIC brand.

The property will include a pool, a social lobby, and three restaurants and entertainment outlets. A 16,000-square-foot landscaped rooftop terrace will feature open-air views of Los Angeles.

PUBLIC West Hollywood will follow the same philosophy as the original New York location, which opened in the city’s Lower East Side. Schrager’s concept of “luxury for all” emphasizes accessible pricing paired with design-driven spaces, high-quality service, and social experiences.

Catering towards both travelers and locals alike, PUBLIC hotels blend hospitality with culture and community, according to the brand. Reservations for the West Hollywood property are expected to open in January 2026.
