College Avenue reconstruction starts July 27, runs through Jan. 2027: Public Works

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Significant roadwork is anticipated to affect traffic on College Avenue, as Kern County Public Works plans to initiate a major reconstruction project this summer.

Beginning Monday, July 27, 2026, Kern County Public Works will start construction on College Avenue between Mount Vernon Avenue and Montello Street. Construction is anticipated to be completed by Jan. 20, 2027.

The project includes roadway reconstruction, improvements to bus stop landings, and upgrades to curb ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility standards.

College Avenue will remain open throughout construction, with one lane of traffic maintained for both eastbound and westbound traffic. Drivers should expect delays, use caution when traveling through the work zone, and follow posted traffic control signs and directions.
