The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department began a hate crime investigation after a mural was vandalized with an antisemitic message and symbols in Pasadena, authorities announced Friday.
Deputies responded to North Altadena Drive near Washington Boulevard Friday after learning about the act of vandalism at a place of worship.
The sheriff’s department did not identity which synagogue was vandalized. But the Pasadena Jewish Temple & Center is located on Altadena Drive, and its buildings were destroyed by the Eaton Fire in January 2025.
The sheriff’s department condemned the antisemitic vandalism, adding hate crime has no place in the Pasadena and Altadena community.
“We are committed to conducting a thorough investigation, holding those responsible accountable, and standing with our Jewish community, all faith communities and every resident against all forms of hatred and intolerance,” Altadena Station Captain Ethan Marquez said.
